Compact IDE Adapter for SD Cards

This adapter board converts an SD card into a standard ATA IDE 3.5-inch disk drive. It transforms your SD card into a silent, shock-resistant, and durable storage device compatible with IDE interfaces.

Designed to expand compatibility, it allows easy integration of SD cards with legacy ATA IDE systems without requiring drivers or complex setup.

Robust Compatibility and Performance

The adapter supports SDXD cards up to 128GB and interfaces via a standard 40-pin IDE connector using an 80-pin cable. It works with popular data transfer protocols including PIO, Multi-word DMA, and Ultra DMA mode 3, ensuring efficient read/write speeds comparable to traditional hard drives.

  • Supports PIO, Multi-word DMA, Ultra DMA (U-DMA Mode 3) transfers
  • Compatible with up to 128GB SDXD cards
  • Utilizes a standard IDE 3.5-inch interface
  • No driver installation needed

Simple Power and Connection Setup

Powered through a large 4-pin hard disk power connector, the board requires only 5 volts and under 200mA current for stable operation. Plugging in the SD card and connecting to the IDE cable effectively makes your SD card behave like a conventional hard disk drive.

  • Operates at 5V Β± 0.25V
  • Uses standard 4-pin power connector
  • Power supplied by typical hard disk power cable

Bootable SD Storage Option

This adapter enables booting operating systems like Windows 98 directly from the SD card, providing a versatile and silent alternative storage solution for legacy PC setups.

Its high data transfer rate makes it suitable for system boot and data storage with performance similar to an ATA/133 hard drive.

Physical and Design Details

The conversion board measures 80Γ—68 mm and features a black circuit board with the latest 1309 integrated chip for reliable performance.

Its compact size fits standard 3.5-inch drive bays using conventional IDE connections.

  • Dimensions: 80 mm x 68 mm
  • Black PCB color
  • Equipped with chip model 1309

Top product, works perfectly in an old computer, as a replacement for a drive

Sellers on aliexpress sell this device on a new obsolete firmware (1.55) that only works as a lba28 device (137gb), when a newer lba48 firmware (3.72) exists, i thus have to manually program the new firmware for this to be usable.

It worked perfectly for connecting a micro SD card to a motherboard with an IDE interface.

Not yet put to use, however device seem well designed

A quick note; the chipset has some caveats!

Main limitations capacity cap: limited by lba28 addressing, meaning storage is generally capped at 128gb (or ~137gb) even if you insert a larger sd card.

Speed limits: performance is restricted to ata33 speeds, maxing out around 25 mb/s read speeds.

Formatting rules: requires the first partition on the sd card to be formatted as fat32 or ntfs, or retro systems may read the drive as blank.
