Google took the world by storm with the introduction of its freakishly amazing Veo 3 video generation tool at Google I/O 2025. Unlike other text-to-AI video generators, Veo 3 is capable of generating videos with audio. I’m sure you’ve come across some realistic-looking videos generated by the tool on Instagram or YouTube. Well now, Google wants to integrate Veo 3 videos into YouTube Shorts.
YouTube CEO Neal Mohan made the announcement at the Cannes Lions Film Festival. He revealed that the functionality will go live later this summer. With this feature in action, content creators will be able to generate high-quality, AI-generated videos for their YouTube Shorts. This is likely to be much more convenient than loading the video from Veo 3 onto YouTube Shorts for editing.

Not long ago, Google released the Dream Screen feature for YouTube Shorts. The feature allowed users to generate AI images or videos to be used as a background in their videos. The Dream Screen feature is powered by the older Veo 2 model. Given the results Veo 3 can achieve, the integration could bring a big transformation to YouTube Shorts.

Notably, Veo 3 generates 720p landscape videos, which aren’t compatible with the platform’s portrait orientation. This means users will see black bars if they use Veo 3 videos for their YouTube Shorts. Since Google is planning to integrate Veo 3 into YouTube Shorts, we can expect to see vertical videos from Veo 3 very soon.
